Dr. Gundula Wolf is from Germany, where she grew up during the former cold war era – living in the eastern part (German Democratic Republic) of the then divided country, which was governed by a communist regime under the control of the Soviet Union. While attending veterinary college in Berlin, Germany – she became eyewitness to the fall of the infamous Berlin wall and spent the historical night of November 9th, 1989, celebrating the end of the Cold War and the fall of the Iron Curtain – which initiated the reunification process between East and West Germany – that ultimately commenced by October 3rd, 1990.
Having been restricted from travel and physically exploring the world due to the strict regulations enforced by the Soviet authorities over the people confined within the borders of the former German Democratic Republic – Dr. Wolf took the first chance at catching up on her passion for adventure, when being offered an internship at a Veterinary Hospital in New Braunfels, Texas, where she spent the final summer before her graduation from veterinary college, working alongside a veterinary team caring for a variety of large and small animal species.
She fell in love with the “Land of Opportunities” instantly and moved permanently to the USA after completing her studies and earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Free University Berlin, Germany in 1995. While undergoing the officially required and extremely time-consuming proceedings to become a licensed veterinarian in the Unites States, she faced challenges to sustain not only herself but also her young, growing family financially. Her husband still attending College and only able to work part time, Dr. Wolf – without a valid veterinary license - ended up working as a veterinary technician in a 24-hour emergency hospital while preparing and studying for the ECFVG Certification. Things became an even bigger challenge, when Dr. Wolf discovered that she had become pregnant and suddenly not only needed to prepare for a challenging upcoming examination but also for the arrival of their first child.
After passing the ECFVG Certification Examination and the State Board Exam for the State of Texas, Dr. Wolf worked for several years in multiple mixed and small animal veterinary hospitals, sharpening and expanding her skills and areas of special interest in Veterinary Medicine, before opening her own small animal hospital – Lone Star Animal Clinic in Cedar Park, Texas. Meanwhile her family had expanded as well, requiring multitasking and managing her time between being a mom to her three young children and being a veterinary professional and practice owner. During her time of ownership of Lone Star Animal Clinic, she managed all aspects of the hospital as well as worked as a sole practitioner for the entire duration of 7 years, before a career change of her husband ultimately led to the family decision to relocate to Colorado in 2010, where they have been residing ever since.
Dr. Wolf has been an associate veterinarian of Red Rocks Animal Center since 2018, worked side by side with the former owner Dr. Gennadiy Chepelevich and currently practices general medicine as associate veterinarian and is holding the position as the Medical Director of the facility.
She lives with her husband and her Italian Greyhound in Morrison, Colorado, enjoys quiet times and journaling as much as hiking and taking road trips and sightseeing tours, gym time and weight lifting and is embarking on her own spiritual journey and quest for truth, meaning and wisdom.
